Western Australian Psychotropic Drugs Committee - WAPDC

About WAPDC

WAPDC was established in 1998 with the purpose of providing guidance and advice on the use of psycho-pharmacological agents. In August 2008, the committee published its first edition of Anxiety Disorders – Drug Treatment Guidelines [PDF 250KB]. Previous publications include Antipsychotic Guidelines [PDF 440KB] version 3 from August 2006 and Antidepressant Guidelines (Part I [PDF 139KB] and Part II [PDF 155KB]) version 2 from January 2005.

These guidelines are distributed widely as a source of information and a standard for clinical practice in both hospitals and the community. WAPDC also provides expert independent advice on psychotropic drugs to the Chief Psychiatrist of WA, as well as providing relevant advice and information to medical practitioners and to WATAG. The committee also plans to monitor use of psychotropic drugs, to maintain a watch on new products developed for use in mental health, and to promote drug safety within mental health services.
